Selling near you

Reach buyers looking in your area

Signal is an online marketplace for UK sellers. When you create an advert, you can enter a town or area to help nearby buyers understand the car’s location. Buyers contact you directly through the marketplace. Signal is not a local car-buying service and does not collect vehicles.

01

Choose a public area

Use a town or broad area that helps a buyer plan a viewing. Keep your home address and exact location private until you have agreed a safe arrangement.

02

Set your asking price

Compare similar cars carefully. Mileage, condition, specification, service records and sale type can all affect asking prices.

03

Show the actual car

Use clear photos of the exterior, interior, dashboard and any damage. Remove faces, documents and location clues from images.

04

Reply to buyers directly

Review each enquiry, answer questions and arrange viewings yourself. Signal does not negotiate, take deposits or hold payment for you.

Prepare before publishing

Make it easy for buyers to understand your car

Accurate details help people decide whether to ask a question or arrange a viewing.

01

Check the vehicle details

Confirm the registration, make, model, year, mileage and specification. Describe modifications and known faults clearly.

02

Write a specific description

Include condition, service history, equipment, recent work and anything a buyer should know. Avoid vague claims such as “perfect” if you cannot support them.

03

Gather the paperwork

Have the V5C, MOT information, service records, keys and relevant receipts ready to discuss with a buyer.

04

Plan the handover

Agree what is included in the sale, confirm cleared funds through your own bank and follow the official DVLA process when the vehicle changes keeper.

Common questions

Using Signal to sell your car

Can I sell my car from any UK town?

Signal adverts are available to sellers across the UK. Add the town or broad area where the car can be viewed so interested buyers can decide whether it suits them.

Does Signal buy or collect cars?

No. Signal provides a private vehicle marketplace. You set the price, speak with buyers and arrange any viewing, payment and collection directly.

Is it free to advertise my car?

Creating and publishing a vehicle advert on Signal is free. The advert can be managed from your account, including pausing or marking it sold.

Will my exact address be public?

The public location is for a town or area, not your home address. Keep your exact address and other personal details out of your description and photos.

A safer private sale

Keep control of the transaction

Arrange viewings carefully

Choose a safe, suitable place and do not leave a prospective buyer alone with the vehicle.

Verify payment

Confirm cleared funds through your own bank before handing over the vehicle or keys. Do not rely on screenshots or emails.

Protect personal information

Do not share account credentials, one-time passcodes or unnecessary identity documents with a prospective buyer.

Complete the handover

Use the official DVLA service to notify a change of keeper and agree in writing what is included in the sale.

How pricing information helps Signal

Signal Automotive is an independent start-up building its own vehicle pricing system. Vehicle details and prices you choose to provide for valuation or optional pricing research help us develop and improve Signal’s estimates.

Asking prices and seller-reported outcomes remain labelled by their source; they are not treated as verified sales unless supported by suitable evidence. Optional research choices remain separate, and this acknowledgement does not sign you up to marketing.

Read the privacy notice for details about the information Signal uses and your choices.
